  1. Around 6000 years ago, the moon was used as a calendar, according to some scientists.
  2. Time on Earth is slowing down each day. The solar day is stretching by 1.7 milliseconds each century due to tidal friction from the moon and the sun. The Earth’s rotation is slowing down.
  3. The smallest known unit of time is Planck time. It measures the amount of time it takes to cover a distance so small that it can’t be measured! Planck time amounts to 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 second!
  4. Time has not always been in existence. Before the Big Bang, matter was packed into a tiny ball and time did not exist. This is because is time is a measure of motion in space and without cosmos, time couldn’t have existed!
  5. A day was only 23 hours long when dinosaurs existed. 140 million years from now, a day on Earth will last 25 hours.
  6. Galileo Galilei discovered the use of pendulums to accurately measure time around 400 years ago.
  7. Different parts of the world have different time zones. While you wake up to the morning sun, people in other countries are going to bed!
  8. When asked to choose between a long, fast moving line and a shorter, slower moving line, most people choose the shorter line even though they have to spend the same amount of time waiting!
  9. When fighting against our instincts, time appears to pass more slowly.
  10. The time we spend idle seems to pass more slowly as compared to occupied time. This is the reason some elevators have mirrors both inside and out. This is to give people something to view while waiting.
  11. Theoretical physicists claim that time will come to an end in the next 4 billion years.
