  1. The Greek word ‘adamas’ is the root of the word ‘diamond’ and it means indestructible.
  2. Around 80% of the diamonds found in the world are not suitable for making jewelry. Now we know why diamond jewelry is priced so high!
  3. 250 tons of earth needs to be mined for producing a single one carat diamond!
  4. Diamonds are brought to the earth’s surface by volcanic eruptions.
  5. Contrary to popular belief, diamonds are not the hardest substance on earth. Diamond is only the hardest natural mineral substance. ‘Hyperdiamond’ is a substance created by physicists in 2005 and this substance is more than 10% harder than diamond.
  6. During cutting and polishing, most diamonds lose 50% of their original weight.
  7. America buys more than 50% of the world’s total quality diamonds but accounts for less than 1% of the world’s gemstone production.
